IBM came up with a traffic light system that is able to remotely stop and start the engines of cars with the goal of saving fuel consumption at car-stuffed intersections.
The company has filed a patent application for its latest invention.
The traffic light system receives the position data from the cars waiting at traffic lights and send a "stop-engine" message to the vehicles waiting more than a particular amount of time at the signal.
